How we do it
Is JAN 'N JUNE certified?
YES! JAN ‘N JUNE is GOTS-certified since July 2021.
Still, this process takes some time so we will be able to offer GOTS-certified products from 2022 on. Clearly we only work (and always have) with certified fabrics and are showing transparency through our Eco-IDs on every product page.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
Only textile products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibres can become GOTS certified. All chemical inputs such as dyestuffs and auxiliaries used must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria. The choice of accessories is limited in accordance with ecological aspects as well. A functional waste water treatment plant is mandatory for any wet-processing unit involved and all processors must comply with minimum social criteria.
What we are doing so far
In terms of sustainability, we have to look at the complete life cycle of the products - circular economy is the only way to fight the fast fashion industry.
A circular fashion industry is defined as a regenerative system, in which garments circulate as long as possible and then be returned to the biosphere.
We are constantly trying to improve our products - during the product development we already consider the end of life.
What we're already doing
We try to keep balance between basics and fashion items when designing.
We pay attention to high quality in terms of materials and workmanship - this increases the longevity of the products.
We try not to mix natural and chemical fibres whenever possible so they are easy to recycle.
We offer a re-commerce service for JAN 'N JUNE 2nd Hand items. It' called new-ish and launches in March '22.
We have several initiatives for dead stock and leftover fabrics. Read more under Not-so-dead-stock.
In order to firmly establish and improve circularity at JAN 'N JUNE, we are constantly looking for sustainable materials, innovative technologies and new concepts in terms of recycling.

Doing it differently
Different to most fashion companies, we do not wrap our items in plastic. Your clothes are shipped from our production in Poland and Portugal to our warehouse in Bad Homburg.
To keep your clothes safe and clean at the warehouse we store them in sustainable pergamin bags, which we reuse when sent back. Plastic is a critical material and the environmental impact is extremely dangerous, not least because most of it ends up in our landfill.
If a pergamin bag is torn it can be recycled. Please dispose in paper garbage.
We reuse returned boxes as often as possible. So, sorry if the box you get won’t be the prettiest thing you’ve seen - the inner values count and the environment will thank you.
Besides that, all hangtags and flyer are made from recycled paper.
In November 2020 we moved our warehouse to Bad Homburg, close to Frankfurt. We do not only appreciate the team at our Logistics Partner Livipur a lot, but also looooove the fact that they can close most packages with two little straps instead of plastic tape. How cool is that?
Make sure to scan it
It is our goal to keep our sources and the path of our fabrics fully transparent. Transparency is part of our sustainable business modell. At JAN ‘N JUNE it is equally important as social and environmental responsibility.
Every item has a qr code that leads to the so called ECO-ID – the passport of your item. It reaveals the supply chain in every step such as the origin of the resource or the final production. In our webshop, you can find the ECO-ID on every product site.
VEGAN COATED JERSEY
The “Coated Jersey”, to call it by its technical name, consists of a base of 100% organic cotton and is finished with a special yet harmless coating.
It does remind you of commonly used material that usually has an animal origin?
Well, we can guarantee it's the coating that gives the material a cool, edgy look and feel while being 100% vegan.
For those of you who want to know more about this pretty cool fabric:
The coating consists of water-based polyurethane, which can be produced without solvents and harmful formaldehyde. The process has been optimized by our Portuguese manufacturer over several years and is now one of the only and most sustainable vegan coated options on the market.
Check out all vegan coated styles here.
About second chances
Wondering what we do with samples, faulty items and dead stock? As a sustainable fashion brand, it has always been clear to us that we don’t want to throw not even one single item away.
Our goal is to value all of our effortly manufactured products as much and as long as we can, so we decided to give second chances to our samples, faulty items and dead stock:
Sample Sale: we organize sample sales in our office from time to time to give you the chance to fall in love with (sometimes even unique) JAN ’N JUNE pieces!
Thrift Shops: Unsold samples and dead stock items get a second chance at Second Schanze, a thrift shop in our hometown Hamburg.
Upcycling: we give faulty items to upcycling designers (such as Nonoi Studio) who know how to make something beautiful out of pieces that can’t be worn anymore.
Offcuts and leftover fabrics: We use offcuts and leftover fabric for beautiful little accessories such as scrunchies or little bags.
Donating: Warm hats, beanies and scarfs are regularly donated to amazing local projects for people in need.
Fabric Swatches and sample fabrics: We give them to schools and kindergarden projects for art classes. Feel free to contact us if you have something in mind. Annika will help you at mail@jannjune.com.
IVN Best - What's that?
The IVN-Best standard, best known in Europe, is much higher than current legal mandates within the European Union. It is the quality seal with the strictest requirements for ecological textile production and represents the highest technical level currently available.
Since 2000, BEST reflects the standards developed and implemented by iVN for eco-friendly textiles, inspecting the entire textile chain both in terms of ecology and social accountability. Only a select range of products can meet this standard.
JAN 'N JUNE is currently not IVN-Best certified but we always keep looking out for materials that are.
Some of you probably know this one
The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is an independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production.
They are tested for harmful substances as: illegal substances, legally regulated substances, known harmful (but not legally regulated) chemicals as well as parameters for health care. In their entirety the requirements clearly exceed existing national legislation.
Global Recycling Standard
The Global Recycled Standard is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions.
The GRS is intended to meet the need of companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products (both finished and intermediate products) and to verify responsible social, environmental, and chemical practices in the production of these products.
The objectives of the GRS are to define requirements to ensure accurate content claims, good working conditions, and that harmful environmental and chemical impacts are minimized.
The Global Recycle Standard (GRS) was originally developed by Control Union Certifications (CU) in 2008 and ownership was passed to Textile Exchange January 1st, 2011.
At JAN 'N JUNE we always look out for this standard when sourcing recycled fabrics.
